Youth Services
WorkSource Southwest Georgia can meet you where you are, and assist you decide where you want to go. Whether you are currently
enrolled in school or out-of-school, but looking to get back on track, WorkSource Southwest Georgia can help.
Our contracted service providers for youth include: Dougherty County School System, Eckerd Connects Paxen and Terrell
County Board of Education.
In-School Youth - Applicants must be attending school (as defined under State law) and between the ages of 14 – 21 at the
time of enrollment, meet low-income qualifications, in addition to meeting one of the following:
•
Basic Skills Deficient
•
English Language Learner
•
Homeless, Runaway, Foster Child or Aged out of Foster Care
•
Pregnant or Parenting
•
Offender
•
Documented Disability
•
Youth who Requires Additional Assistance (as defined by local policy) to enter or complete an educational program or to
secure or hold employment
Out of School Youth - Applicants must be not attending any school (as defined under State law) and between the ages
of 16 – 24 at the time of enrollment in addition to meeting one of the following:
Dropout
•
Youth is within the compulsory school attendance (6-16), but has not attended school for at least the most recent complete
school year calendar quarter (school year calendar quarter is based on how a local school district defines its school year
quarters)
•
Youth is a recipient of a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent who is a low income individual and is
either Basic Skills Deficient or an English
•
Language Learner
•
Offender
•
Homeless, Runaway, Foster Child or Aged out of Foster Care
•
Eligible for Assistance Under Section 477 of the Social Security Administration (SSA)
•
In an Out-of-Home Placement
•
Pregnant or Parenting
•
Documented Disability
•
Youth is a low-income individual who Requires Additional Assistance (as defined by local policy) to enter or
complete and educational program or to secure or hold employment
Youth services encompass the 14 Youth Elements which are:
•
Tutoring, Study Skills Training, Instruction, and Dropout Prevention
•
Alternative Secondary School and Dropout Recovery Services
•
Paid and Unpaid Work Experience
•
Occupational Skills Training
•
Education Offered Concurrently with Workforce Preparation
•
Leadership Development Opportunities
•
Supportive Services
•
Adult Mentoring
•
Follow-up Services
•
Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling
•
Financial Literacy Education
•
Entrepreneurial Skills Training
•
Services that Provide Labor Market Information
•
Postsecondary Preparation and Transition Activities
